Gold Card Battery

As the battery in my Gold Card no longer works, is it OK to just remove it and leave the Gold Card without a battery, in case the flat battery leaks?

I've never really relied on the battery backup clock anyway, so I probably wouldn't miss the battery, assuming the Gold Card can work without the battery installed.

Yes that is okay.

Out of interest, what is the purpose of the battery in the Gold Card? Is this like a CMOS battery?

Provides battery backed clock and a few unused bits in RTC chip hold settings for AUTO_TK2F1 (boot automatically as if you pressed F1 with TK2 extensions enabled, AUTO_TK2F2 for F2, AUTO_DIS cancels). Also SCR2EN/SCR2DIS for second screen and FLP_JIGGLE (fix for some drives). IIRC only 4 bits, but CMOS like settings :)
