I've just run a quick check on the Wiki media directory, we have:

70 images in Books;
208 in Packaging;
160 in Screenshots;
298 still in root.

I agree, the spinner is taking far too long. I'll see if there are any bugs in the Wiki software that I need to get a patch for.

Yes indeed, there's an issue logged from 2019, still unfixed.
