Saw this one a few days ago for $500 buy-it-now or $200 starting bit. No one had bid on it for the first 3 days and now it's gone as someone paid the $500. Surprised the buyer didn't just put a bit on it to see how hi it went.

It' s a US model so perhaps those are a bit more rare...

Wow, $500

Loving QL & ZX Spectrum & Amiga...
Re: 700 Euros for a boxed QL \o/
The most expensive QL I bought had a £399 price tag... but since that was in 1984, it's equivalent to about £1300 today. Crazy! And I think that one year later they were already selling for 1/3 the original price.

My first QL was about £185 from a computer shop in Aberdeen, just after the price drop from £399. Bargain!
Except a work colleague got one the same week from Dixons, same price, with a free Serial 8056 thermal printer.
He gave me the printer on long term loan as he had no need for it.
My next QL cost £0.50 for a raffle ticket at a QL show in Newcastle.
Cheers,
Norm.

Why do they put lightning conductors on churches?

I'd not seen that one. The seller was clever there to have it BIN at $500. $500 was tempting enough and not silly-high for someone to go for it. They can't have sold all that many US versions, so it's pretty rare and worth every penny I'd say.

Re: 700 Euros for a boxed QL \o/
The only thing that can stop the continuous price rise would be the appearance of a QL motherboard clone and a QL keyboard clone. (As is happening on other platforms).
Years ago there was an overvaluation of the Gold Card and Super Gold Card. After Tetroid manufactured their clones, prices stabilized and stopped rising.

Not sure about that, I mean, original is original and even if there are better alternatives, which there already are in many respects, original will always have it's lure to a certain group of people. The fact that there are better things available is a sign that the QL scene is still alive and that in itself could potentially be causing an increase of interest in the QL in general and a knock on effect of that could be a price rise on the original related items. But in saying that, the QL scene is pretty tiny and all recent perceived price increases could be flukes!
Original SGC and GC are still pretty expensive, in fact more expensive than the technically superior Tetroid devices (as I've seen for both GC and SGC recently), but then I'm not sure what they were going for before the modern clones existed!
