We only made them for the team but there was an absolute minimum we had to make that's how we were left with a few. Two are given as prizes to people that will innovate and three more (2 + 1 for next year) were given out to Crash live attendees.
The actual Next we make and sell is through KS funding of which the 3rd round will be around April. So there will be more Nexts to buy to those who want the genuine article. That being said it's an open system and we support the creation of clones (there are 5 major ones and there are more coming soon) so I don't see how it affects anyone who wants to get to use the system. If you want a Next, you can buy one right now for about $100 (Xberry π)
I didn't know they existed. Just looked at one...pretty cool. They remind me of the Raspberry Pi 400 (although you can't beat those unique QL/Spectrum key tops).

Rick's design was ahead of his time. I wonder how many modern computers got their inspiration from him. I look at Lenova and even Dell at times and see his design in them.

Slightly off-topic, but Qzero and QIMSI Gold fit inside various PS/2 keyboards, too:

But I did not find one good-looking enough to actually build myself such a machine.
A Rick Dickinson style new QL keyboard would be a dream. But QL community size is only a small fraction of the Spectrum.

I hope Tobias noticed that. ;)

I think, I rather have the Qzero integrated into a PS/2 keyboard.

Since I have both, I may get the Qzero or even QIMSI Gold into the keyboard case.

At least I would have SMSQ/E available, where the Next can only run Minerva.

Derek
