Amply. When 512k was the best available, I was happy as a pig in poo with that ;)
Cool. That will be my end goal.

Will learn the basics "mouse-less" at first but hope to get a supported mouse down the road with a boosted up QL.

The Issue 8 doesn't really have anything to do with this, but since it was brought up, it WILL have onboard 100% compatible QIMI mouse support. This is because the positions of 8302/8049 changed and it is easy to put it on the mainboard. If people do NOT want this fitted, the pads will be there for future upgrade.

For me, the mouse support is the most interesting feature of issue 8.
Lack of mouse is the only thing that clouds my happiness with the QL + QL-SD + SGC + QL-vDrive + dual floppy drive.

In addition to the QL you'll typiclally need a video converter, memory expansion or (Super)GoldCard, QIMI and QL-SD at least. Plus (Super)Hermes if you need reliable SER.

And if you actually want to work rather than collect, make sure you're okay with the QL keyboard. If you are not, it could make sense to bypass all those add-ons and get a Q68 right away. From a practical viewpoint that makes QL life so much easier. ;)

I think TJ wants to go on the same journey we did, just with an accelerated timetable.

Yeah but we are hardware tinkerers, while TJ seems more software (and mouse) oriented ;)

Think of TJ in this way.... :P average joe that buys a new computer and learning as he goes.... plays with both hardware and software... but is no tech... just a dude that tries what he sees documented... some DIY and sometimes not.

Does his best to not blow stuff up and wants to learn.... Used to mice driven computers so his foray into Sinclair so far has been all keyboard hokey pokey. :D

With the original QL, you'll have to collect a number of items, some of them historical, before you have a relatively useful machine. Typically you'll have some repair issues like most of us. You won't be able to directly connect monitors and mice which are available new. With focus on hardware tinkering this route can be fun, and the forum will help you.

With the Q68 you are closer to an "instant-on" experience. Basically, a miniaturized QL with the problematic hardware already replaced.
Learning would focus on the software side.

It would be interesting to watch two QL newcomers like you, one taking the "original" route and one the "modernized" route. ;)
