Unknown to me as a long time ATari user, I don't recall in the olden days folks running this Alt OS on their Atari systems.
Thumbing through a downloaded .PDF of QLToday I see all sorts of mentioned and dealer ads for Atari. Wow!
So, anyone here have any experience running QODS or SMS2 or SMSQ/e on their Mega STe? I happen to own a Mega STe.

Re: Atari Mega STe QDOS - SMS2 - SMSQ/e
Hi TJ,
There is a hardware expansion card that plugs into the VME bus of the Mega STE or TT030. Which runs SMSQ/E in 4 colours with a very nice high resolution of varying sizes dependant on the monitor.
I have a QVME connected to a Mega STE and it runs nice...
I did ask Jochen Merz, who to supply the QVME card, if the card could re-produced. But he seemed think the QVME designer was not interested.
Maybe it could be reverse engineered.
But if you download a copy of SMQ/E for the Atari, SMSQ/E will run in mono mode, which give you some experience of the operatimg system.
High resolution monitor is required.

Although I've never owned an Atari, I know of various QL-type add-ons:SinclairSociety wrote:Unknown to me as a long time ATari user, I don't recall in the olden days folks running this Alt OS on their Atari systems.

1. ST-QL card:

2. QVME card: https://qlwiki.qlforum.co.uk/doku.php?i ... :qvme_card
3. As Derek said, there is a version of SMSQ/E operating system to run natively on some Ataris - download from http://www.wlenerz.com/smsqe/
4. An older emulator called QLem - see entry at http://www.dilwyn.me.uk/emu/index.html
5. A plug in cartridge provided an SMS2 system (predecessor to SMSQ/E, but without a BASIC interpreter). Couldn't find info on this, sorry.

I also asked Jochen and he said, that QVME isn't able to produce the full WMAN2 colours. So it seems better, to design a new one, even if Edwin Holtman (the designer of QVME) isn't no longer interested in this.Derek_Stewart wrote:I did ask Jochen Merz, who to supply the QVME card, if the card could re-produced.
