Re: Fire
Dilwyn, sucky news
Ive had success getting the cigarette smoke smell off electronics with liberal dosings of IPA (Isopropyl Alcohol not the craft beer).
The insurance guys are really good at the cleanup so your house should be ok in the end. We had an office fire once and after they did their work there was no sign of the fire ever again.

Re: Fire
So sorry for the fire, but happy you and your house are safe.
I well know the smoke smell: it's so terrible and difficult to neutralize. Many years ago a piece of wood of my kitchen burnt partially; it had been repaired, but still today it has some little smoke odour!

Re: Fire
Thank you Cristian.
Cleanup specialists from the insurance company are here today. Initial assessment seems to be that 99% of what's in the attic can be salvaged, but the amount of smoke damage is such that the content of the attic will be taken away for examination and specialist cleaning.
