Happy Birthday - the same machine for 35 years must be something of a record.

I kept the case from an old ibm PC going for a good few years, all be it with progressively better motherboads, hard disks and power supplies. But the case was so strong you could use it as a stool, none of that flimsy plastic or paper thin metal...

My biggest regret was selling my Aurora / SGC setup I built, I would be tempted to buy it back if it came up for sale :-)

Happy Birthday Steve! I turned 50 on the 12th, and have had my QL for 31 years, so 62% of my life - oh my :D

In fact, following the sad news re Rick Dickinson yesterday, I got all nostalgic and I got the QL out of the cupboard last night and plugged it all in - I think the last time I powered it up was about 5 years ago (quite possibly longer than that). It all still works, amazingly. The image on the TV is pretty awful (RGB to SCART) but I am not sure whether that is the TV (a cheap Alba that is getting long in the tooth itself) or the QL, and most of my microdrive tapes won't read any more, but the floppy disk works and I have been able to retrieve the source code from quite a few of my early SuperBASIC programs. Some of the code was quite good. Most was... well least said, eh? I've never done any C++ myself, my introduction to objects was using Smalltalk to build banking systems on OS/2 in the 90s. Those days were fun! Nowadays it's mostly Python, PHP, and lots and lots of SQL and NoSQL database work. But like, you, I find SuperBASIC still hugely appealing. There's just something about it.

I was 58 in April 2018.
So far, I'm winning!

Got my first QL back in 85 if I remember correctly, it was a JM, but one microdrive was broken, so a replacement QL was a JS! Result.

Prir to that, Zx81 and 16k Spectrum. Sinclair fan? Me? ;)

Cheers,
Norm.

(Thanks to vanpeebles and XorA for doing the ground-breaking research there. Cheers lads!)
