Yes, I'm one third of the original Qview Minerva team, now in Austin Texas (long story). Somewhere along the way the old QL snuck away and I should do something about that, ideally one with a CAPSLED kit. If your QL seems different in that it has a small green LED near the CAPS LOCK, and you never figured out why, it's one of the first mods that Qview made available courtesy of Jonathan Oakley. If you have questions on Qview ancient history, feel free to ask and I'll do my best to try and remember but no promises it won't came back with an I/O Not Found error ;-)

Welcome Stuart.
I used to have one of those caps LED kits installed in one of my original QLs, which I sadly sold on at some point because its microdrives didn't work (nothing to do with your kit of course!) and the buyer wasn't bothered about microdrives luckily.
I've had a quick look through old papers of mine from that era just in case I had a photocopy of the instruction sheet or anything like that, but sadly not.
It gets a mention on the QL Wiki - if you have any more info to add to that short mention I'm sure they'd like to add it. https://qlwiki.qlforum.co.uk/doku.php?i ... &s[]=qview

Hi,

I had the details for CapsLED, which I had fitted to most of my QLs, but alas, I have lost the details.

I can not seem to remember where I got them, msybd from a BBS in the 1988-92 period.

I found this gem in the Hermes manual:

The old 8049 could tell you the state of P26 (pin 37), which was an old
microdrive write protect idea that never worked. It could also be
pursuaded to drive P23 (pin 24), which was supposed to be "microdrive
reduced sensitivity", but actually got wired to INT2, causing all sorts
of mayhem. Actually, the QView CAPSLED kit uses this output to drive
an LED, but only after bending the leg out.

Hi,

That sounds about right, the CapsLED mod was soldered direct to the 8049/Hermes Chip.

But I did not like soldering wires to these chips, so I did a little circuit board with a pair of pins for the LED.

In fact I had the QL and Gold Card in a Memotech MTX 512 case. Which had the keyboard rewired to suit the QL, the CapsLED was drilled into the top of the case.

Alas I think I did not document the changes I made and after 30 years, I can not remember.

Wanna do lunch? I’m in Round Rock. Worked at Sandy, and the Sam Coupe started life on my workbench. Lau was a good friend, before he became so reclusive.

I’ve been vaccinated. Just waiting for roads to thaw and services to restart.
