Ah, I used India Pale Ale - no wonder it doesn't work! :D

Cheers,
Norm.

I've got some of that for "cleaning" later :D

Good tip on the dashboard shine too, Tobby!

No need to go that far east. I tend to use Franconian "Helles" for inwards cleaning, that's pale and easternish (from my POV) enough for my taste.

There is a seller on SMR offering 3d printed rubber wheels. I bought some. They certainly look good but I haven't tried them yet. Others have been impressed, from what I hear.

Chr$, can you please give me more detailed information?
Thank you all.
Microdrive cleaning has been covered, as for the felt pads on the actual cartridges, those are the weakest link and are most likely to fail. You have to remove the old ones and stick on new small pieces of felt. I can probably send you a few.

Basically:
Top left. Pull out the tape slightly so there is room to work.
Top middle. Shows a disintegrated old pad.
Top right. Clean the brass spring with IPA if necessary (some you need to scrape with a blade).
Bottom left: Line up a suitably cut piece of felt.
Bottom right: Stick it down.
(not shown): wind the tape back carefully by turning the tape against the wheel on the left.

Ask me about felt pads - I can cut them to size and they have proved excellent for mdv data recovery.

Thank you all for your answers. It is clear now.
I had time to install the new membrane, without further cleaning (I will do it later).
The new screws from Derek fit perfectly, thanks again Derek :)
I plugged my new SCART cable and switched on the QL.
Pressed F2 and here we go, the QL is working perfectly :D
Very clear display on TV.
I tried monitor mode but I missed some characters. Not a problem.
I ran a little Basic test, all good.
I also made DIR on both drives. LED on and normal error message on both.
I checked the felt on the microdrives and actuallly it needs to be replaced.
I have done a mistake: I have 2 more microdrives, but with labels. It is LISP.
I didn't try to read one of them. I will change the felt before.
