Yes the QL and ZX Spectrum (ZX Interface 1) use the same network lead - I have several for £2 each - you actually need 2 cables from memory to complete the circuit :)

Nah. Don't do that. The QL network will cease to work if you connect the computers up in a circular manner - It needs to go point-to-point.

Sernet wants a circular connection, though.

Yes, the two 'ends' of the QNet bus need to be left open-cct, to give the 130/2 = 65 ohm pull-down to the overall bus.

Though it'll probably still work - but less reliably (reflections?)

The page on the S*BASIC Manual online is incorrect in this regard and one of several items I was planning to submit to Norman for changing (under section A17 Networks).

Both of my QLs have now arrived and both have no video. I was going to send them to Ian Gledhill after a quick play, but that is now needed sooner rather than later. But at least they will then both work.

I know this is a really noob question but.....
Can I get sound externally other than the inbuilt beeper?

There were some add-on sound cards, but they are quite rare - QTALK was one, QSOUND the other - they were both based on the AY sound chip and used a special device driver.

The BEEP command is limited to the internal speaker - although you could turn it into an external speaker quite easily as the wires from the speak just push into a 2 pin header just behind the microdrive units

I've been mulling this over in the small hours. I'd like a mono socket out, like the Spectrum so I can play audio out and alter volume etc. If there's a 2 pin header for a speaker, it more than likely has the wrong current to connect straight to an amp.
So I Googled "speaker to RCA". There are loads of little converter boxes that appear to do the trick. Around £10 each. Their primary use is to provide a line out for a car stereo from the speakers output. They have 4 input wires to deal with stereo and then two rca output with a volume knob.
Anyone with any experience of this or an alternative?
