To clarify, at the moment, sellmyretro.com does not allow sales to the UK from another country where the value is £135 or less. To do that, we would need to collect the UK VAT on behalf of the seller (whether they are VAT registered or not), which leads to double PayPal fees, as the buyer has to pay sellmyretro and we then have to pay the seller for the item.

It is just too complex.

We are looking at how we can allow sellers outside the UK who have registered for UK VAT to sell through sellmyretro as the transaction remains between the buyer and the seller direct - some have done this (ByteDelight, Zaxon and Bloodnok).

Even worse is selling to the EU - here for sales up to €150, if the seller is a different EU country to the EU country where the buyer is located - the seller is strictly responsible for collecting VAT at the rate in the buyer's country (although there is a minimum amount of sales, €10,000 below which the seller does not have to do this. For sellers based outside the EU, there is no minimum amount of sales and the seller is supposed to register under the IOSS scheme, or SellMyRetro. Not only does this mean double paypal fees if SellMyRetro collect it, but there is also the need to appoint someone based in the EU to deal with the tax authorities for you and they are jointly responsible for the VAT (fees start at €10,000 pa)
