SMSQ 3.38 for Aurora does not work ?

Post by FrancoisLanciault »

Hi,

Today I upgraded my QL computers to the latest SMSQ 3.38. While the upgrade went smoothly on my GoldCard QL and my Q68, it was not the case with my SuperGoldCard + Aurora station.

First strange behavior, when I try to configure the Aurora_bin file taken from the official SMSQ site, the config utility only list the SMSQ stuff to configure, while usually you can also see the wman + ptrgen stuff etc.

Also, when I LRESPR the aurora_bin file, the system crashes with a corrupted screen.

As anyone been successful in using SMSQ 3.38 on the Aurora ?

Regards
François

I don't own an Aurora, but when I download the ZIP with the Binaries from Wolfgangs site I can configure all sections without problems.

Could it be that your _inf file has become corrupted?

And if there is no _inf file? I have never used that.

IIRC _inf is MenuConfig file for automatic updating.

I've just downloaded SMSQ 3.38 I'll try it on my Aurora/SGC set up.

If you use MenuConfig it produces a file called MenuConf_inf.
I have noticed on occasion that this file can, for some reason, become corrupted/confused. That produces strange effects on any subsequent editing of config items.

SMSQ v3.38 works fine on my SGC/Aurora setup.

MenuConfig applied to bin file reports everything : SMSQ 3.38, WMAN colours 2.09, WMAN 2.09, Hotkey2 2.31, Recent thing 1.00

BTW I never use _inf files

Clearly my aurora_bin file was corrupted somehow. I will try again and report.

Ok I figured out the problem, this is bad news.

The aurora_bin file was downloaded from Wolfgang site and went through many steps before ending on my aurora setup hard drive. So I checked the integrity of it along the path…

Ok on SMSQmulator i.e. config utility shows all config options
Ok on my Q68
Ok on my GoldCard SD card (transferred from Q68)
Ok on floppy disk (written by gold card) on both GC system and Aurora system

*** NOT ok on Aurora system Hard Drive ***

I have copied the file from floppy many times at different location on the HD and it end up corrupted every time

Starting SMSQE from the floppy disk works
Copying Aurora_bin from floppy to ram disk and starting SMSQE from there works
Copying Aurora_bin from floppy to my second HD and starting SMSQE from there works

Conclusion: my main HD has a problem… Corrupting files when writing them ? Or reading them ?

So far, all the old content, on this HD, seems to load OK, but how to be sure ?

Anyway, time to replace those old mechanical HD with something more recent…
