Hi Folks,

Just in case you haven't discovered what the 'EMP' doodle was all about :

The National Geographic Magazine (french edition) has included a short paragraph about solar instability. In the case of a solar flare similar to the 1859 one which crippled New York’s fledgeling electric supply, all the worlds nuclear power stations will instantly fail, and suffer meltdown ! Sobering thought..... No QLing...

I have also heard of research that indicates the Sun is not quite as stable as we thought and in the last 10,000 years there have been 3 events hundreds of times more powerful than the 1859 event. Seems as though we would lose the use of most electronic things. Push us back to the 1890 technology with 7.9 billion people to feed. Guns and bullets would still work so it would be hell on Earth.

Sleep well...
Steve.

Sounds like we might need earthed shielding around ever QL to keep us safe. Faraday cage anyone? ;)

Never trust the sun. (Spoken like a true, pale blue skinned, ginger haired Scotsman!)

Cheers,
Norm

US QL's are a bit better prepared as they are coated with metal paint on the inside of the case...

Can you buy that paint? I've never seen it anywhere.

I think you can. I was researching that when looking at creating a Q68 case (a project put on hold by pandemic since I wanted to use school stuff to help with mold making, etc). If I recall correctly, I might have found stuff on Amazon that was RF metalized paint to use for juts that purpose.

In the Samsung QL's case, I don't think that the metal was actually painted on - to me it looks more like vaporized aluminium that was deposited on the case inside, a standard process for such coatings. Not exactly suited for DIY, however.
