Couple of recent mdv discoveries

Post by Chr$ »

A little wave of mdv archaeology has yielded a couple of MIA/previously unknown software titles.

1. QDUMPS by Eidersoft. I have recovered a backup mdv of this (it doesn't seem to be protected), which allows you to print screen dumps to printer - in colour! It is listed on qlwiki as MIA. I'll send a copy to Simone for his archive, but won't share it here as it's not that spectacular nowadays and is of course not in the public domain.

2. XASMZ80, AKA QL Z80-Assembler. I can find no mention of this anywhere and it would seem to be something that was privately produced and possibly sold directly by the author. According to details in a REM statement it is by C L Lang and from the late 80s. It came stapled to 2 sheets of A4 with instructions. I'll take a chance with this one and will include it here. It remains copyright C L Lang and if he/she objects to it being shared here, please let me know.

The file was zipped in windows. It contains an .mdv image of XASMZ80 and a jpg of the 3-page instructions.

Ask me about felt pads - I can cut them to size and they have proved excellent for mdv data recovery.

Excellent discoveries!

I wonder if C L Lang might be the same C Lang who produced the Lang Video Digitiser hardware for the QL many years ago? https://qlwiki.qlforum.co.uk/doku.php?i ... =digitiser

Regarding the Eidersoft title, would it be possible for you to send a copy for preservation to Rich Mellor also for the QL Preservation Project?

I think Simone Voltolini is the 'main man' for gathering the dumps and images of original software. But if Rich wants it I will of course send it.

C L Lang (also just 'C Lang' in another REM statement) is very likely to be CL Systems with an address at 403 Chapter Rd, London, NW2 5NG.
