Solved: QL psu cord

Post by Paul »

I am searching for a psu cord that goes into the QL.
Rich unfortunately has none for sale.
A non working or a working psu with cable on it would also do.
Has anyone a spare or broken he never managed to repair?

Kind regards
Paul

Deleted my duplicate thread - the power cable from a Tandata stack would of course suffice (although it would be very short so would need extending)

A very easy solution is to use a molex mini-kk (as it is called in Brazil, don't know about elsewhere) 3-pin female connector. I'm uploading an image, just a moment...

You just gotta file the top to fit in the QL power port profile

Hope that helps

Can someone remind me of the three pinouts - someone else has asked for a QL power supply and I just don't have any spare.

I know one pin is +9V DC, middle is 0V and other pin is 12V AC

But which pin is which?

Thanks for your tip.
I was able to find a working PSU for my second QL in Germany.

Hi i got a QL without psu and wanted to make my own psu i did find suitable transformer it was from bosch power drill it has got 9vdc and 12vac outputs.
But can someone with working QL psu measure the pins, so i dont burn my beloved QL.

In case someone needs the psu the model is Bosch Frivo FW 3299/15.0034.

First of all, measuring of the PSU is kind of irritating.
Therefor I measured on my open QL as well to be shure.
The QL needs 1.8 A at 9VDC and 0.2A at AC.
I guess the voltage is not THAT important, the psu states 15.6VAC
Hopefully 12V is sufficient.
The middle pin is ground reference and AC reference so we call it 0V.
Looking at the psu cord the right pin is 9VDC. That is the left pin if you look at the pins on the rear if your QL.
The left pin of the plug is 15.6VAC, that is the right pin of your QL looked at from the rear.
Again:
On the QL the pin closest it the NET input is DC+ 9V
The middle pin is 0 V or ground
The right pin closest to the video output is AC 15.6V ~

I have made a diagram of the PSU connections, relative to the QL. If someone can verify it's correct I'll add it to my Sinclair QL Homepage for future reference.

The +9V DC is a nominal 9V. This line feeds the 5V regulator chip. The Sinclair PSU uses a thyristor (also known as a SCR) to control the power output on the +9V supply, which limits the output voltage.

Step up to red alert. Sir, are you absolutely sure? It does mean changing the bulb :!:
