re programming gals rom on a qubide 1,56

Post by nikosdoykas »

hello i got 2 qubide one with a 1.56 rom an 1 with 3.10 qubata
i want to reprogramming the gals(16v8d lattice) and erprom (27c512 winbond) of the 1,56 to 3.10 qubata
i have the ti866cs programmer
so what is the procedure ?
i see the qub 3.10 files from alan haoui is in the forum (thanks alan)
is this?

1 jedec is fror the lower gal on the qubide?(as we se from ide conector)
2 jedec is for the upper gal?
rom ok i undersatnd is for the rom
i must make it x4 times to write on the 27c512?
i can write on a new 27c128 eprom(uv)? (is 16k as the 27c128 is 16k actually)
so gals can reprogramming or is preferd to buy a new one?
and if its reprogramming the voltage is?? 10v or more?
thanks in advance

Hello,
If both gals are near the edge bord, I guess your board is a clone.
The gal 1 is nearest ide connector and the gal 2 nearest QL motherboard connector.
I am used to reprogram the gals without need new ones.
Usually clone board comes with otp rom which cannot be reprogrammed and need to be replaced with a new 27c128.

thanks alain for the 3.10 and the answers
a)SO My EEPROM IS A WINBOND WC27C512... ITS REWRITABLE i have to make the 16k 3.10 x4 times? or only one?
b)VOLTAGE FOR GALS? 10V? its lattice 16v8d
c)yes is a clone...
d)with this gals upgraded it can run 2.xx firmware... right?
e)i got a 27c128 andy a 27c257-12 eeprom winbond... its ok?(or i have to write 3.10 x2 times in line on second one?)

Well, I am not a hardware man able to answer electronical questions but I don't see why writing x times the firmware code on winbond 512 could be a solution. Higher addresses than 16k should not be selected at all. If the board does this way, you have to bend out some adresses legs or to ground them. Anyway you can try writing once the 16k rom software at lowest address (0). It works or not but I would prefer you use a c127 eprom at all.

No idea about voltage for gals, my eprom device selects automatically the right one but I think easy to find sheet data for this devices.

Yes, upgrade gals with the right codes permits to run qubide original driver 2.xx or QUBATA 3.xx.

The ROM socket on the DIY board has pins 1 and 27 tied to VCC (+5v), so these would be the 2 upper most address lines on a 64K ROM (27c512), the design says to use either a 27128 or 27256 size (16K or 32K), but the 64K ROM will fit, although it's a waste.

I've used a 32K flash chip and cut the track at pin 27 to allow a jumper selecting one 16K bank or the other - you could program up 2 versions in ROM then. if you jumper between pin 28 and pin 27, and wire a resistor of 330 / 470 ohms from pin 27 to ground (pin 14) then removal of the jumper selects lower 16K and having the jumper present gives upper 16K. The kit I brought with a 64K ROM in it has the same image repeated 4 times.

I have used a similar scheme to implement a big 1 mega rom (2x512) on Q40 with external selector switching between 2 bigs uncompressed SMSQE in rom.
This worked fine but I don't see any benefit to switch between 2 qubide firmwares...
