QL RomDisq Cases

Post by RWAP »

Sorry to disappoint, but there is no news of new RomDisqs being available...

However, how much interest would there be in a 3D printed case for the QL RomDisq - expected price would be £9 + Shipping + VAT

The design would be based on the QL EPROM cart design.

Was someone tasked/hoping to re-produce them?

Ask me about felt pads - I can cut them to size and they have proved excellent for mdv data recovery.

There is only Tony FIrshman who has made them in the past, but he said "there is too high a minimum order for the chips required, plus I have forgotten how to make them"

Hi,

I asked for a Romdisq to be repaired, but I got the same reason for not repairing the Romdisq, high minimum order quantity of the flash ram chips.

Which strange, as I can buy them easily at no minimum order quantity.

But I doubt that the design files will be released to me for construction.

Regards,

Derek

I think the main issue is that there are no design files!

Be totally obsolete anyway, once the QL-SD ROM thingy comes out ;). Mind you, I'm probably not the only one quite partial to obsolete stuff.

Romdisqs should be re-made. I suspect it's possible nowadays to go bigger than 8mb fairly cheaply?

Granted, ROMDisq is about as compact as it can get. QL-SD ROM is about 1cm deeper but actually also a bit narrower. Other than that there‘s probably no advantage to it.

By the way, a printed enclosure would be a good thing for QL-SD because there‘s nothing to stabilise it in Z-direction when changing SD-cards. Does still work of course.
