QL gets HOT

Post by retro_collector »

OK I have rebuilt my QL and now looks and works like NEW! I can format and read and write in MDV1 and MDV2!

I have replaced the Heatsink and the power regulator with Tetroids QL power module now that part doesn't even get warm. But I noticed when I lifted my QL the the bottom was very HOT

Is this normal or is because of Tetroids SGC? Its hot from the left of the micro drive to the Super gold card

Thanks

Bill

Do you have the little feet fitted to keep it on an angle? :)

hot is relatively relative {sic}.

QLs are known to be a bit on the temperature-inefficient side and it is quite normal they get hot after being switched on for about an hour. As long as you don't burn your fingers on the chips (which starts at about 60°C), you should be fine.

All of my QLs are like that and have been working for years.

In case you want to do something extra, you can equip the ULAs with heatsinks, and, if you have a GC or SGC, can remove the 68008 from its socket - It isn't needed with these cards and the QL runs fine (and cooler) without it.

Thanks Tobias, I will take your suggestion and remove the 68008 since I have the SGC
