YouTube academy tells me that the Crossover core is open source and can relatively easily be employed with the WineskinWinery application (https://github.com/Gcenx/WineskinServer). But no idea how well that would work with QPC2 :?

So I just checked and I had QPC2 working on my M1 Mac
I am on the codeweavers.com site at the moment. CrossOver Mac is free for 14 days and then either $60 or $500. CodeWeavers claim to be "Software liberators". I suppose in the sense of "liberating" you of $500, they are.

Thank you all for your answers.
QPC2 works with mac book M1 (ARM) via Cross Over but it costs.

I used Black Friday to order both a Macbook Air (for my wife) and a MacMini server (to replace my 2009 model that has been working 24/7 for 12 years, so it's due for a replacement). So eventually I'll see what I can do.

For a definitive *performance* answer:

I have a MBP M1 Pro. If you install Parallels, then create a VM with Windows 11 for ARM, it will natively run x86 programs through MS's version of Rosetta. Performance will be approximately equal to running it on a current i7 high end laptop.

Parallels costs money, but many people have it already.

Crossover on M1 Macs uses some libraries which run on the Apple's Rosetta 2. However, Crossover is a wrapper for WINE and WINE is not at all optimized for performance, so the overall speed is approximately 1/3rd that of the Parallels/Win11 method. It's also quite..... glitchy graphically.

There will be a working M1 version that doesn't need any additional licenses. Performance is almost the same as on a fast PC laptop, even though it still runs under Rosetta 2 as there is currently no Wine support for ARM binaries.
