Faster CPU plug in extensions, How?
Re: Faster CPU plug in extensions, How?
unless you go entirely 3.3v, but then you sacrifice any compatibility with original hardware

Which makes me wonder, the PCBs existed (scans elsewhere on Dilwyns site) and as far as I know, there was a review, perhaps in QLW or the german Quasar.Derek_Stewart wrote:I tried to buy a MegaRAM, but ABC Elektronik, decided not to supply it and tried to keep the money I paid them.RalfR wrote:This reminds me of the ABC MegaRAM from Uli Rosowski, which had the same processor.
But I used the German Law Courts to force Andreas Budde to return the money. Which this was successful, but alas no MegRAM... Quite a good idea. pity there was crooked people to spoil the concept.
So I think, a few have actually been built.

Hi,
It was a pity about the MegaRam board, which I tried to purchase, based on the review in QL World.
But in retrospect, maybe the MegaRam was a bad idea, would it of worked with Minerva, which was the operating system to use at that time.
I always thought an expansion port could be made with connections on the CPU and 8302 sockets. But never got around to to it.

The QL CPU sockets were absolutely terrible. While the idea is sound, those red sockets would have ruined the experience for many.

Can the socket be replaced with a better quality socket?Dave wrote:The QL CPU sockets were absolutely terrible. While the idea is sound, those red sockets would have ruined the experience for many.

They can, but it is beyond the skill of the average hobbyist.
However, it’s easier to accomplish the goal by making a small expansion card with thru-connector and disabling the internal CPU like the SGC does.

Perhaps remove the 68008 to save power as well?Dave wrote:it’s easier to accomplish the goal by making a small expansion card with thru-connector and disabling the internal CPU like the SGC does.
Re: Faster CPU plug in extensions, How?
You can, but it draws fairly little power when running, and even less when halted.
