It was a pity about the MegaRam board, which I tried to purchase, based on the review in QL World.

But in retrospect, maybe the MegaRam was a bad idea, would it of worked with Minerva, which was the operating system to use at that time.

I always thought an expansion port could be made with connections on the CPU and 8302 sockets. But never got around to to it.

The QL CPU sockets were absolutely terrible. While the idea is sound, those red sockets would have ruined the experience for many.

Can the socket be replaced with a better quality socket?

They can, but it is beyond the skill of the average hobbyist.

However, it’s easier to accomplish the goal by making a small expansion card with thru-connector and disabling the internal CPU like the SGC does.

Perhaps remove the 68008 to save power as well?

You can, but it draws fairly little power when running, and even less when halted.
