Post by SinclairSociety »

Today I booted my Sinclair QL for the 1st time.

Come watch me get excited over this 35 year old computer.

1984 in 2019 all over again!

I hope you re-felted the cartridges or had re-felted cartridges delivered with it! It will get messy if you don't.

Ask me about felt pads - I can cut them to size and they have proved excellent for mdv data recovery.

Wohoo! :D Thank you for sharing this moment! It will be interesting if you now get tempted to walk the "upgrade route" like most of us. And, if yes, which route. ;)

On one hand a Q68 solves the usual QL limitations (memory, speed, mass storage, decent video, mouse, buffered clock, serial port) all at once. On the other hand, the Q68 is not made for the beloved QL case. And everytime I see the enthusiasm of QL returnees, I wonder if the Q68 is a too large step at once?

The SuperGoldCard is a fantastic piece of hardware, but it suffers from not being available, and not solving the video issue. Recently I had a private discussion again about an UltraGoldCard for the QL case, mainly to provide an easy upgrade for returning QL users. It's so tempting, because the enthusiasm of QL returnees is what we need.

Hi TJ,

I have watched alot of your videos, which I would like say they are all very good.

The question of microdrive cartridge re-felting. I have done some reasearch, there does seem to be a problem with the sourcing of the pad with correct material.

One web site indicated the use of audio cassette felt pads. I am not sure about this.

This seem a real problem.

Regards,

Derek
