Yes, English and Welsh local political representation may be broken. But by voting to leave, it is very possible, and alas likely that it will get worse, not better. When do the rich and powerful suffer?

If we cannot get a good deal with the EU, and it is likely that any deal we do get will be worse than the current arrangements, and our trade with the rest of the world cannot compensate, prices of imported products and food will increase. Then the less well off will get poorer.

We are a net importer of both products and food.

Further, this could be compounded by companies based outside the UK deciding somewhere else is a better bet so they can continue to be in the EU.

Yes, lots of if's and speculation. But even if we do okay in the long term, the uncertainty for the next coming years will do damage to the UK.

So what has leaving actually got us?

We have seen the likes of Nissan Sunderland rumbling on and off if the UK left, that factory has the highest output outside of Japan and they work like bastards. The Qashqai was also a huge seller here and they couldn't make them fast enough. These companies can't have it both ones way.

So where was everyone when a lot of people in unions called for a general strike?

I live in a town not far from Bristol, my workplace is in Bristol. There are problems, but it sounds a lot worse in other areas.
I was aware that there is resentment. Fully understandable. But nearly all of the problems are due to conservative policies.

We will never solve the housing problem while local councils and housing associations have to sell under the right to buy scheme, and don't have the money or will to build hundreds of thousands of new homes.

We also need to reduce the number of second homes and holiday homes to help places like Cornwall.

And we need to ditch first past the post elections for MPs.

But none of this is due to the EU. And now, it is very likely we will get an even more right wing government. So it is even less likely. And if the Scottish get independence, well....

It's just a case of waiting and seeing really. I didn't vote but as someone born and bred in the north east (both sides of the family for generations) I can understand why the voted went how it did.

A lot my family have worked in construction (as have I) and their wages/opportunities have been hammered by cheap labour from Poland. They just can't compete.

We lost all of our industries (which built and funded an empire, made mega billions), were forced to adapt into other work and then that gets pulled out from under everyone via free movement of a cheap cash in hand workforce. It's not a level playing field, never mind the fact it's in your own country.

I think a lot of people in unions are only in them for the protection they give in a legal/insurance capacity. The recent teachers strike that's just been approved had a 25% voting turnout of their members.
