Re: Ql problem

Looking at that pattern: Reseat all the ICs. Look for a good, solid 5v across pins 1 and 3 of the 7805 during boot. Also check for a good, solid 5V somewhere down at the other end of the board. On the 68008 pin 13 is +5v and pin 35 is ground. If you have a memory expansion, plug it in. If the failur...

Re: Ql problem

In this case, Minerva is the best way to locate the bad location. During boot, it finds the bad memory and allows the machine to start with reduced memory. You can then test the faulty location to work out which chip is bad. I do have a Minerva ROM and some spare RAM chips, if it turns out to be mor...

Re: Is there a serial number "key "

I'd like to add something to the information above that may contradict it slightly. All returned QLs were converted to parts, and the case bottoms were used for new QLs. The D## was the month of manufacture, with the earliest release machines being D03 or similar, and the last of the machines were m...

Re: My struggles with compilers...

I also do it that way because I can traverse my data easily, and edit in place. It's great for maps, contour graphs, etc...

That said, I now need to re-write all my library procedures for that :)

Re: Seen on eBay

Some of the parts are useful, but most aren't applicable to a QL even if you have quite a lot of knowledge. That said, the combined price for the parts, those you can use are still reasonable. I have bid on two copies of this auction but always been outbid. I now prefer to go for individual parts, b...

Re: Projects in motion.

That's another thread on this site. It's an IDE-> CF adaptor card plugged into a QubIDE which is hidden inside the QL's case on top of the Gold Card.

Very neat.

I would love to see the backplane inside that machine.

Re: My struggles with compilers...

Which doesn't affect me at all, fortunately. My programming style was always to ALCHP and then load the data in and peek it. I did this because it was more compact than SuperBASIC on mdv, a bit quicker to load, and just fun to do.
