I think that would be fine. You'll probably have to press it down onto the chip and keep holding when testing - whatever is needed to ensure the connection is good. I've used that method before, sometimes it cures the issue other times it leads to different patterns on screen and sometimes it makes ...

Always worked very well for me, the only little problem was that as it was uncased, it got dusty I'm not using mine currently, as my Gold Card QL has been reduced for now to two floppy drives since getting QIMSI. Checked mine and I have one with a GC sticker like yours with mods on the rear and also a D2 as BSJR describes with the mods incorporated into the PCB design.

That was on purpose. Spanish keyboard was introduced in 1985. So it's not 40 yet....

I think the left pin when you look at the QL from the front is the input, but am not 100% without checking. Just check it with a multimeter, the output pin will be 5v.
