Re: Faster/wider CPU...

XC9500 is end-of-lifeing in October this year, Brane2. Ordinary CPLDs get pricey after 144 macrocells. MachXO2 is affordable even at 640 or more... That's why engineers switch to FPGAs instead. As for issues with installation of EDA software, could we go off-line for this please, unless the EDA soft...

Re: Devpac QL

Drat and double drat - I forgot to post the MonQL to Rich. I'll post it when I have time, but the next time I come home is in three weeks time...

Re: Faster/wider CPU...

Although there is probably a critical mass for a 'QL Redux' in hardware (MemoryLane, Peter, PPE, Dave, et al.), I'm not sure there is enough people to rewrite the OS and produce some software that shows off the new features. Adrian / Peter / PPE - Willing to test / debug new / updated hardware for y...

Re: Faster/wider CPU...

Hmm, Dave's idea is, I think, like a modern version of the GC, just his version. I like his idea. As for me, I'd take Dave's/GC/SGC, mix it with ethernet, and put a great dirty FPGA on top for the CPU (Hey, I'm a FPGA Engineer - don't spoil my dream!). Unfortunately, my gantt chart is showing 2040 f...

Re: Devpac QL

As Rich knows, I've got the debugger / disassembler (MonQL) only on microdrive - however I'm in Edinburgh and the microdrive is West Yorkshire. Also, my QLs are in disarray so can't easily transfer onto disk. Fortunately, I'm back in West Yorkshire this weekend so I'll package the MonQL up and send ...

Re: Quanta AGM and QL Workshop 2012

Hopefully, I'm coming to the QL Workshop on Saturday.

Unfortunately, I need to travel back to Edinburgh on the Sunday, so can't make it to the AGM.

If anyone needs a lift, I'm in Shipley (North Bradford) and driving down the M62.

Re: QL Wishlist for 2012

Off topic: Learned recently that a dear friend had a hand in desgining Raspberry PI's CPU. Apparently, the ARM core was dropped in secretly in order to further self-test the chip - the real purpose is the vector arithmetic / vector graphics - that's why the 4 generations of chips have been sold to A...

Re: Faster/wider CPU...

Now I'm a contractor, I'm starting a FPGA that interfaces to a 68020...

... and yes, their service life is 30 years.

Now, how old is the QL? ;)

Re: (Newbie) Aurora / Gold Card

Ah... my bulb lights at last. D'Oh! The reason the Del LCD was corrupted because the Aurora defaults to QL mode if there is no boot from floppy (from finally reading the Aurora manual). So, I need a CPLD/FPGA to convert the lower res to 1024 x 768 for the Dell. Another thing to add to the list.... N...

Re: All I want for Christmas.....

Thanks for the info Dex. So, 68K core on FPGA is propably do-able (Atari ST 68k core seems the completest) It's just the microdrive/a.n.other/etc settings that we would need to change the timings for if we change the clock frequency (Don't envy that). Maybe a second processor to drive microdrives, s...
