Re: QL Software Preservation - Next Steps

It's concerned me for a long time the lack of old commercial software freely available for the QL which seemed to be controlled by a few people. This is probably the only old retro platform that does not have it's old software readily available publicly for all to enjoy. Without that old software t...

Re: I love QDOS, but...

I do not understand the issue ? Many removable media (mdvs, flps...) have hardware write protections (some kind of tabs) that you can see and manipulate. If you may modify them by (any) software, it means that you no longer have write protection. So, for these media, it is well that QDOS does not p...

I love QDOS, but...

So I was refelting a bunch of microdrive cartridges and couldn't get two to format. I tried everything and must have cleaned the heads multiple times, etc. I even tried wiping any data off of them with a strong magnet thinking maybe a clean slate would do...but nothing. They were both write-protecte...

Re: SMSQE on Raspberry pi 400

I haven't used either SMSQemulator or uQLx but would the latter run faster on a Pi-400 since it's not run under the Java Runtime Environment?

Re: Front End/Icon Environment

Does anyone want to provide their opinion on the most attractive front end/icon driven environment? I have a standard QL, with a tetroid disk interface and vMap. I would like to keep that setup as it provides the functionality of both real microdrives, virtual microdrives, floppy disks and a CF car...

Re: Microdrive data line format

Been reading through this...did Gertk's prototype SD emulator get anywhere? When was vDrive created? Are the two connected? Seems like the former suddenly stopped in 2014.

Re: Sinclair QL Storage Solutions

Hi, Welcome to the forum! There are presently two SD options. QL-SD is an internal installation and replaces one of the internal microdrives or also comes in a micro-SD model that sticks out of the back of the QL near the video port. It gets installed internally having a socket extension that (I bel...

Re: PiStorm

Actually the only problem is getting the timing of the MDV and NET routines right, the rest is pretty trivial. A 68000 based solution works for the most parts even without a single patch. But believe it or not, I do agree with you that this whole thing still feels strange. In the end it would proba...

Re: PiStorm

Which can cause data loss, and seems criticised in the Amiga scene. This issue came up on the Discord server and Claude himself said there was no issue with power down the Amiga and no data loss had been reported in tests or by any users. The only recommendation is that if you have a hard drive to ...
