Re: Complete OPD ROMs, in case anyway fancies making an Emulator!

This is a dump of the ICL OPD vocabulary phrase ROM (PHROM) TMS6100NL. The data in this chip gets passed to and processed by the TMS5220 speech synthesiser chip to ultimately emanate as words through the loudspeaker. I enjoyed getting the data off this chip... I saw that the BBC Model B used the sam...

Re: OPD piggy-back board?

Yes, that's the OPD CPU daughter board, which contains the 68008 CPU, 4 PROM chips and one of the 2 TMS speech chips (plus a few 74x logic chips). The speech chip is the one that generates the actual speaking (as used in the BBC micro). The other speech chip, which contains the vocabulary of words, ...

Complete OPD ROMs, in case anyway fancies making an Emulator!

I don't think the ICL OPD (AKA Merlin Tonto etc) ROMs are anywhere to be found online, probably because they are fairly uncommon beasties and who knows, ICL may not have explicitly made them PD. I doubt very much that ICL or its successors will be too bothered about the short-lived One Per Desk syst...

Yes. But disconnect the scart lead with power off.

Re: The thing with Quill needing mdv2_

That works, in fact better than data_use seems to. For some reason some of my Quill images are missing the config_bas file.

Probably because its TK2 DATA_USE default? (DLIST to show)
Aha, yes, I think you're right there. I'll try to remember that data_use is default mdv2_, useful tip that.

The thing with Quill needing mdv2_

In the past the fact that Quill needs mdv2_ for the def_tmp file has been a hindrance on a couple of machines without a working mdv2_! You simply can't get any further and Quill will not load. I worked out today that it only attempts to access mdv2_ when tk2 is present in ROM. Out of interest, why i...

Re: chr$ - JS ROM upgrade board

Hello Jean-Yves,

Yes, I can supply mdv felt too and probably also sent you some. I used to have them on ebay but the demand was quite high and my fingers were getting sore from having to cut so many (manually). I do still sell felt pieces to people that ask here or on fb etc.

Re: RAM fault rabbit hole

Failed ZX8301 (IC22) is (In my experience) the most common cause of no video/black screen. They are fragile chips and often die if you mess around with the RGB cable with the QL on, so it may not be RAM related. Could that have happened? Are you using the RGB connector? Perhaps remove and re-seat th...
