Re: Wanted: I need a twisted external Microdrive cable
Sorry, I made mine several years ago from an existing one. It is quite fiddly to open them (care with a small screwdriver) and then re-close - you need to use a vice to get a nice even pressure - or the proper insulation displacement tools of course. If you don't have new ribbon cable a length cut d...

Re: Wanted: I need a twisted external Microdrive cable
I just use a longer standard one - carefully remove the connectors and add around 30cm of ribbon cable - that just lets you stand it on top of a QL or if you have two connected together just behind - see photo (the extra length does not seem to affect operation but, your mileage may vary): https://t...

Re: Expansion serial card?
Sorry yes my point was to make the Pi an offload processor from the QL (which could provide many more functions and be very standard / cheap for people, so I drifted off topic about how to do that; the idea of putting it on the memory map will allow fairly rapid write even with the limit of the Cart...

Re: Hello from Hampshire
Welcome from Wales - I have been going through a similar re-acquaintance with a QL. As I had to get an old one from e-bay with no RAM expansion I bought the QUBIDE clone from ZAXON on sellmyretro http://www.sellmyretro.com/offer/details/qubide-interface-for-sinclair-ql-21804 which has a 512K expansi...

Re: Expansion serial card?
Those were the RS232 modules I have - only tried one on the Dragon 32 at the moment but, ordered two intending the other for the PI for the QL project the arrived very quickly and are very neat. I have done a bit of bare metal arm asm but, getting it to boot and flashing LED's is about my limit and ...

Re: Using ZX Microdrives on the QL
Interesting findings - if as you say the converted ones work OK still on the Spectrum I will modify one of mine that I know will read on the QL but, not format, and see what happens - My mdv2_ is shot so the Spectrum one is needed as my second drive but, as you say it is not reliable. I have recentl...

Re: Expansion serial card?
I have been toying with the idea of looking at adding a Raspberry Pi Zero W to various retro machines to add modern comms. There is a thread elsewhere on here about hacking the Microdrive interface to connect up some systems which faded out but seemed interesting - that is one solution that could al...

Wanted: Does anyone have any copies of the Gilsoft Adventure Writer (the other quill)
Version other than A03 and especially later ones as that is the version I have - but, feel free to reply if you are one of the rare owners! Alan Pemberton mentions version A06 and A07 in his documents and programs on extracting the contents. There is no issue with copyright in me getting copies if y...

Re: The Future of the QL Wiki
All and Rich in particular I know I am a latecomer back to the QL party - despite once sitting on a train from Cambridge with a large Jiffy bag with several other people with the same bags unable to talk to them as I had just signed a really heavy NDA (Non Disclosure Agreement). But, I think people ...
