Re: QL serial to PC

My SD card reader was broken for a while last year so I had to rely on microdrives. Had to rebuild some carts through serial link from my PC and it worked pretty well. Basically used the copy command from the serial port to a file (i.e. I didn't need to write a BASIC program but just used QDOS comma...

Re: The Sinclair QL in North America

I was part of NESQLUG (and editor for a few years). We had a few QL shows in Boston in the early 90's, bringing the Miracle Systems crew out. I think one year they flew into Logan and rode their folding bikes to the show. I bought my QL from Sharps in Mechanicsfille, Virginia. I got a bunch of stuff...

Re: In the market

I haven't quite figured out how to install software sourced from Dilwyn (thank you Dilwyn). Is there a resource you can point me to that would instruct? There's a bit of a chicken-and-egg issue there. For all the zip files on the site you need the QL unzip utility, which is an executable -- well, y...

Re: QL Screen View online

Oh, that's so handy. I was just playing around with Photon over the holidays so this tool is nice to have to see what the _scr file looks like.

Re: QL replica

Re: Solid State Microdrive Cartridge?

I have a Panasonic micro-cassette recorder https://www.amazon.com/Panasonic-Microc ... 00855ZODA/:

Measured its head an it is only about 5 millimeters, so they do make them smaller. Where to source them though, I don't know.

Re: QL-is-40!

Speaking of QL @ 40, saw this piece pop up:

Edit: I guess my video on the Q68 made it in there...

Both. Then we have an excuse to celebrate more than once ...
We should have a virtual meetup on delivery date for QL @ 40.

Re: Solid State Microdrive Cartridge?

That was also my understanding - that if the QL was writing data - it would be present on the head, and would not be there if we were reading - it would expect the tape to be providing it. I would think for reading vs writing, there would be a voltage passing through the magnetic coil in either ins...

Re: Solid State Microdrive Cartridge?

Not quite. Checking the erase coil would not be done for erasing anything, but to actually detect when to write. In this setup, it's the only way how we can discriminate between reading and writing, since we don't have access to the R/W line of the Microdrive bus. Oh interesting. I guess I was unde...
