Re: SMS2 and STELLA

Postby RalfR » Mon Feb 21, 2022 6:13 pm Does anyone know how far the OS for Futura had progressed? Postby RalfR » Tue Feb 22, 2022 5:48 pm I would like to have an Futura, it would also be interesting, what TT had planned for his "QLT". The SMS2 project began just after the Futura project ...

Sparrowhawk » Thu Feb 24, 2022 5:01 pm Is that A4 colour? If so that is a great price and a way better deal than I got. (£42.76) Norm's greyscale book is accessed as per my post as follows:- https://qlforum.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=3294&hilit=assembler+manual&start=40#p35207 It costs £...

Re: SMS2 and STELLA

Martin_Head » Sun Feb 20, 2022 9:27 am The thing is, I don't have any experience of I2C, and I don't have any I2C devices. I thought I would see what I2C devices one can buy. There are plenty of them:- Digital compasses, 3-axis accelerometers, gyroscopes, Ambient light, Spectroscopy, Lidar, Relays,...

Re: SMS2 and STELLA

I have never read the docs mentioned above. I have just downloaded them and gave them a brief glance.
They seem very interesting. I find post QL history fascinating.

Re: SMS2 and STELLA

Unread postby tofro » Sat Feb 19, 2022 12:37 pm No, he wasn't. He was offering Stella to anyone else but QLers because he didn't fancy to support legacy anymore. I sort of understand your point of view. I was using "QLers" as shorthand for fans of QDOS rather than fans of the QL. As I men...

Re: SMS2 and STELLA

Ralf's link to Wikipedia, is pertinent. In my view the last paragraph of the article is the most interesting:- "How much more is it reasonable to do with SMSQ which, by its need for compatibility with a 10 year old computer, is locked into a 10 year old design? Is there enough interest in the t...

Re: SMS2 and STELLA

SMS2 is, post Futura, but when I look at SMS2 source code Is seems that a lot of it was developed for an earlier project, probably the Futura. I downloaded a PDF titled:- http://www.sinclairql.net/downloads/1986-12_Brochure_SANDY_FUTURA_4pages.pdf The System software is described as QDOS compatible ...

Re: SMS2 and STELLA

When I write:- "Stella or SMS in FPGA", I mean Stella or SMS running in an FPGA implementation of a "system-on-chip" and not an OS as a digital circuit, although TT did once suggest that such a thing would be very fast. The Q68 I would describe as SMSQE in FPGA. I did not realise...

Re: SMS2 and STELLA

So far, the responses to this topic have been useful. To date they have all been negative. Any takers for a positive response? I get the impression that no one has read Peter Graf's reply to TT's post in March 2017. I have never suggested that it would be useful (or even possible) to place Stella wi...
