This is my flip over backplane that was used to house a gold card and sawn off QL into a slim case

It worked remarkably well, despite the basic nature and no ground plane.

This is half of the RB500e backplane kit - not sure what happened to the other half - I think it was consumed into another project and is long gone.

This piece is the 4 slot backplane - and might suit some one experimenting...

Does anyone know if these are still made / available, or if anyone has a small stash of these?

I am talking about the plastic end cover that goes over the expansion cards that can be plugged into the left hand side.

You could put a scope on the RGB socket and see what you get on the synch pins - this will tell you if the ULA is at least producing video timing pulses. Unless you have a small board carrying the power and network connectors, to go up that end of the case. A small DC-DC buck converter can handle the power conversion from the nominal 9v to 5V / 3.3V or what ever you needed.
