Re: Original QL case molds

The trick will be to create the negative mold if indeed the home-made thermoform plastic molding machine works as advertised. We have CNC machines at school so I guess I'd have to learn how to design and carve something out. The medium is tricky but I hear that for the home-made one, balsa wood was ...

Re: Spotted on eBay

So around $500 US dollars when including shipping...QL's are not cheap. At one point there are going to be worth more than gold :-/

Re: Original QL case molds

Ah, just found out that my father-in-law build his own thermoform plastic molding machine...will have to play with that but I guess with his you can create molds from balsa wood and then he uses "electric radiance" to get the plastic to conform. So maybe there is a little bit of molding in...

Re: Original QL case molds

So yes, recreating the molds and then doing production runs would likely require between 500 to 1000 buyers to reclaim that investment (not interested in personally doing that btw). I have a US QL that for whatever reason I always thought was a Samsung production. Don't know if I read it somewhere o...

Original QL case molds

Been reading about the two new motherboard projects (I think there are two: Issue 8 and Tx threads) and am excited to see their progress. Of course this means we have to take the old motherboard out of our cases to put the new ones in. In the Commodore world someone tracked down old molds for a slim...

Re: Today I Received...

...my Q68. Wow was it well packed. Thank you Derek! Q68.jpg What surprised me was the size of it. Here is a comparison between it and one of the original Raspberry Pis (Model 1 B): Q68 vs Pi1B.jpg I imagined it to be something like twice as big. I'm very happy that it is this smaller size. It's goin...

Re: Help with Composite out

F1 color-composite picture where monitor fails and shows black&white and claims PAL. You can see the grid pattern and those slowly are in motion: color-comp-spook-f1.png F1 monochrome-composite and the picture is smooth. The circular artifacts on the white part are from the iPhone camera and do...

Re: Help with Composite out

Test part 2. So looking at the monochrome-composite picture in detail (again using Spook, which is a pretty cool implementation of Pacman), it seems totally different. In places where the color-composite picture, in black&white, tries to display color (i.e. red or blue for instance) the area for...

Re: Help with Composite out

Still playing around with video, though I've gotten used to using color-composite. Even with monitor (F1) mode in color-composite giving me a black&white image, the picture is usable. I think one difference between monochrome- and color-composite in monitor (F1) mode is that in color-composite, ...

Joystick wiring

So with my US QL I have two female DB9 sockets (Atari style) joystick ports. I wired my own joystick to the QL many years ago. It's a CH Products Mach 3 Joystick that supports 3 buttons and the 4 directions -- so 7 keys. It has some nice features I like. First the joystick either springs back or you...
