Re: ULA1 nextgen idea...

Sandy Munro happens to think otherwise. But what would he know about tech or cars anyway ? That's irrelevant, I'm speaking about the poor engineering teams that have to deal with a meddling owner. Far too many micro managers out there. Well, reminds me of a great story about Bill Gates: https://www...

Re: QL emulation on Linux - is there anything mainstream ?

Best native solution is probably https://github.com/SinclairQL/sQLux

Apart from that people run QPC with WINE or SMSQmulator with the JRE.

Re: QXL.WIN (the domain name).

It's all cluster based, so even worst case you can still read 8 or 16 sectors at once. But yeah, it's all speculation anyway, I don't intend to implement it ;)

Re: QXL.WIN (the domain name).

It needs a few more milliseconds to read in the fat, but during actual operation it's just one additional table lookup per sector, which pales compared to the time it takes to actually read or write said sector. I don't think you could measure the difference.

Re: QXL.WIN (the domain name).

I just want to add that all native platforms have a WIN_CHECK command to actually check if a container file is continuous. Use that once to ensure your container is in one piece. Qx0 and Q68 could in theory also work with fragmented containers, but a) nobody has written the code for it and b) it wou...

Re: QXL.WIN (the domain name).

Yeah, I know, QPC has the same capability... but actually QubIDE support is currently broken on all platforms. I fixed it for the upcoming SMSQ/E. Can you detail the required changes and why it became broken? I think it was broken in 3.36. I'm waiting for Wolfgang to release the next version. By th...

Re: QXL.WIN (the domain name).

I think you are not quite correct here, the QLWA container file, first appeared on the QXL, which used an MSDOS operating system to run the QXL SMSQ executable programme to run SMSQ, then later SMSQ/E. I omitted SMSQ (on purpose), but apart from that, how is this different from what I said? The Q68...

Re: QXL.WIN (the domain name).

What did I really mean there? I was referring more to the recent ability for SMSQ/E (on a Q40) to recognise a QXL.WIN container file on a FAT formatted CF/IDE device. I remember reading that that was a new feature. Was that just a Q40/60 thing then? Ah, I see, the native "QXL.WIN on FAT32"...

Re: QXL.WIN (the domain name).

Ha, nice one, Chris :D Cool idea. Minor nitpick, I don't get this sentence: "[QXL.WIN] and just recently got added support from SMSQ/E". The QLWA (this is the format's real name) was always SMSQ/E based. First for the QXL, then QPC, all others came much later. The driver was just ported to...
