Re: Hello from Dorset

Jan as a novice back then at 68k assembler I was pretty proud that I managed to create a working driver for my setup with QBOX. I forget what you called your driver, but it was my first attempt at 68k, quite different to the Z80 assembler I was used to. The name was QSPIL (QBOX Serial Port Interfac...

Re: Hello from Dorset

Jan, I remember it well also! I really did enjoy those days, the event at Houten was excellent, I am still in contact with Jack Raats on occasion mainly through Facebook. I believe I ran the QL based BBS for about 10 years, although it did end up running Maximus on a PC. I seem to recall I built yo...

Re: Hello from Dorset

Jan, If it worked with an AT Hayes modem, boy do I have a treat for you :) It definitely does. All communication is done via a driver which interfaces between the QBOX application and the serial port/modem. This was designed so that non-Hayes compatible modems could be used (or even dumb or null mo...

Re: Hello from Dorset

Hello Wayne! Long time no see... I remember you visiting Holland back in 1990 at a HCC Sinclair user fair. Also you were one of my first registered QBOX customers :) . I've been away from the QL scene for about ten years (well actually longer as I haven't done much with it since 1995) but returned i...

Re: Noisy QPC2 machine

When you start up QPC2, there is a dialog box with a setting 'Power Management'. When I set this to 'off', QPC2 almost constantly uses 100% of one CPU core. When set to 'on', I noticed no significant increase in CPU utilisation when idle. There's also a setting 'suspend'; I don't know off-hand what ...

on the black box it actually is: The original EXEC cannot take any arguments.
But I suspect you mixed up EXEC and EXEC_W
With TK2 installed, EXEC is the same as EX (and EXEC_W the same as EW). Of course this goes for TC, GC as well.

Re: QL 34th Anniversary new hardware.

Hi Jan, yes the 512x384 highcolor mode is also my favorite, and I find it nice to work with, except a few programs which were apparently designed for huge screens. Of course the Q68 has not nearly 68060 speed, that was never the goal. It is rather an update path for people coming from the QL or (S)...

Re: QL 34th Anniversary new hardware.

Hi Fabrizio, can you send me a personal email with your address? And yes, the Q68 speed is not very suitable for normal work in highcolour+highres at the same time. If you don't need highcolour, just highres, maybe 1024x768 DISP_MODE 4 helps. Peter I personally like the 512x384 mode. Gives correct ...

Sjef van de Molengraaf

For those who don't read the mailing list: I am sad to inform you all that Sjef van de Molengraaf passed away earlier this week at the age of 73. As long time secretary of the Dutch SIN_QL_AIR foundation he will be remembered by many international QL'ers. He was the driving force behind many great E...
