NEC and Citizen mechanisms that listed 12v could "some times" still run off a single 5v supply if the current was available. The 12v was usually rectified down to 5v to run the motor anyway. On these devices, on just 5v supplies, sometimes when the motor started the electronics would trip ...

SRAM is so much easier to work with than DRAM. It requires no refresh, runs at a much greater range of speeds, is far more tolerant - it really helps simplify designs if you do not have a huge budget.

Given the floppies use only +5v, even a couple of good quality USB adaptors can be rigged to supply power for the floppies. All you'd need to do is disassemble them and use the knowledge you've already demonstrated

I have a small pile of those battery back up PCBs. They were designed by a US trader, I believe. That is where I obtained the blanks. Unfortunately, they came without a parts list or any instructions, so if someone has one of these working and/or instructions, I'd be interested in the details.

My gut instinct is that we should throw up a Kickstarter campaign to raise some funds to a) properly reward the first to market for their work by paying some or all of their development costs and b) using the remainder (if any) to offset production costs with the condition this be passed through to ...

I have always found Rich's prices to be fair, and set by the market. He has always passed the test of "Could he charge more and still sell these items? Yes."
In a way, the hardware sales he does sponsor his software restoration projects too.
