Forum search
I wonder if the Forum admin team have any control over the search facility on the Forum? It seems to reject the most useful search keywords as "too common", for example, try searching for C5 which is rejected as being too short or Sinclair C5 as being too common. You can work around this t...

C5 in shop window
Spotted in Bangor, North Wales - I took this picture of a C5 through the window of a computer shop of all places. Wonder if they deliver computers in it?

Tiny Chess
Darren Branagh shared a link via F.book recently about what might be the smallest chess playing program ever at just 487 bytes - see http://arstechnica.com/gaming/2015/01/squeezing-a-playable-chess-program-into-487-bytes/ . That article links to a 1K ZX81 chess listing article in Your Computer magaz...

Re: QL Commercial Software Preservation
Unfortunately I do not know - if they were both written by the same person then the answer is probably YES. I wasn't involved in the original contact with the copyright holders for Computer One - Dilwyn might know? I only have specific permission for the Computer One stuff already on my website - C...

Re: Hello from Tunbridge Wells
Welcome, Adrian. It's nice to see people acquiring QLs and getting them to work. If you need manuals, have a look at my site where you can get all sorts of replacement manuals for the QL itself, various interfaces and eBooks to do with the QL: http://www.dilwyn.me.uk/docs/manuals/index.html - replac...

Re: Picked up a QL worth doing anything with?
If you want a manual to read up while waiting to get the QL going, copies of the QL manual are available to download from my website: http://www.dilwyn.me.uk/docs/manuals/index.html (scroll down to the QL Manual section) or as an eBook if you have one of those eBook readers (epub, mobi, pdf or Kindl...

Re: Floating Point Numbers
I seem to remember that this system variable (sv_rand offset $2e or dec.46) was used on systems with microdrives to provide the random number used when formatting cartridges to give the "fingerprint" system used in Microdrive copy protection. I tried the routine on QPC2 and as I expected i...

Re: Not ROM but speed
To the best of my knowledge, all I did was move the keyword definitions to the start of the code to make it easier to locate the block and work out the directive needed. The problem may be that in reassembling the assembler may have made some assumptions such as word length and long word length oper...

Happy New Year everyone
May I take this opportunity to wish everyone a very happy QLing new year.
I hope that this Forum will be even busier in 2015 than it was in 2014.
Thank you to everyone who has supported the QL throughout 2014.
