Re: Newbie: Where to start to learn QL assembly language?

Hi Ruptor, I wouldn't waste time on old hat architectures that you have trouble buying you would be better off learning the RPi that leads to other ARM based systems like phones or simple architectures like the 8 or 16 bit PICs, all very useful. Have you seen ARM assembly code? It's all "frack ...

Re: Newbie: Where to start to learn QL assembly language?

Assembly language is very, very simple. - Chapter 1, Section 1. I loved this line when I started going through this book. It's the calming equivalent of Don't Panic! on the HHGTTG :) :D When I wrote the original article in QL Today, I figured I better [mis]lead the reader in gently! ;) Seriously, i...

Re: Are there directory devices with a name longer than 3 letters

Hi Peter, I have tried this (afaik). But (at least on QPC2) there has been a problem. I didn't get all DDs, or there was a gap - can't remember. I started QPC2 this morning and: dev_use 1, win1_c68_ 1000 addr = 0 1010 REPeat loop 1020 PRINT "<" & DEV_NAME(addr) & ">" 1030...

Morning Sparrowhawk, talking of which, we have one living in our garden! Oracle can talk to numerous databases using a "gateway". I've never had to use one myself. If I remember, Access uses OBDC to connect to Oracle. I have 2 main rules in life: 1. Don't get drunk. (My dad and my uncle we...

Re: Neither QL nor FORTH

I had a quick look at Component Pascal. It seems to be like Borland Delphi? I'm assuming the name, Component, is because you can build forms by dropping components onto it a la Visual Basic/Delphi etc. I used to like Borland Delphi but now I'm permanently on Linux, I don;t do much Pascal programming...

Re: Today I Received...

Today I received a nice little soldering station. Looks well made, seems to work fine (at least for my needs) and, finally, I have soft cables! My Antex iron has a really hard PVC cable which makes it impossible to manipulate as it fights me all the time. This one doesn't. (Image stolen from amazon!...

Re: What makes the OS for QL any better, different, unique ?

What ToFro said! Plus, if you are masochistic enough, you can compile your own Linux Kernel, and choose which scheduler you need/want in the various config options. :D Admittedly, I've not done this for a long while, no need, the current Linux scheduler works fine for me. I wouldn't like to build a ...
