Re: QL wishlist for 2011

You should have a look at the HxC Floppy Disk Emulator which is a kind of half-way house - see http://www.sellmyretro.com/offer/details/HxC_SD_Card_Floppy_Disk_Emulator_%28replaces_floppy_disk_drives%29-1140 That does look pretty good, would this also work with BBC & Archimedes machines? As for...

Re: Removing microdrives completely?

The microdrives can easily be removed - they are each held on by two screws at the top, and one underneath. There is then just a flexible ribbon cable to the motherboard, but I warn you - it is a real pain to replace it (following Tony Firshman's advice, I use a cut up chip socket and attach that to...

Re: Some useful commands and info.

Another tip which can be very useful for copying microdrive cartridges, is if you have one of the Miracle Systems expansions (Trump Card, Gold Card or Super Gold Card), you can use the command FORMAT ram1_mdv1 To make a fast copy of the cartridge in mdv1_ This will even copy corrupt and hidden secto...

Re: Some useful commands and info.

WCOPY is part of the commands provided by Toolkit II and many of the disk interfaces. WCOPY can of course be used to copy an individual file - eg. WCOPY mdv1_x, mdv2_ will copy all files which begin with x from mdv1_ to mdv2_. eg mdv1_xa mdv1_Xavier_bas mdv1_x_bas You need to extend the wildcard if ...

Re: File Headers and loss of information

Maybe the problem was the QL emulators and their evolution? Even today, not all of them can manage disk images. Only Q-emuLator can currently handle disk images and that was added to v3.0 at my behest, as I needed an easy means to transfer programs from my own QL Software Preservation Project onto ...

Re: QL Software - some rare now on sale

Has the Pawn sold? Afraid so - it went in minutes. I have one more copy but it is basically, just the key cartridge, a working microdrive copy and the manual - it lacks the original game cartridge and the actual QL Pawn folder. It is however, I suppose a valid copy to be sold second hand if y...

Re: File Headers and loss of information

Cheers for the guide, if you write the files to floppy from within an emulator will they still work ok? When I was adding some extra dats to a QL Floppy I'm sure it stripped my zip adventure intepreter because I had to overwrite it with a working copy due to bad parameter errors. Is it something th...

Re: Q-emulator for OS X and Windows

Could anyone do a little guide on how the file headers get stripped when using windows or emulators? It's something I've been a bit wary of? Surely from the way I probably mis-see it but will some programs not work in an emulator due to the host machine stripping the file info? Done - see http://ww...
