Trying to fix my dead QL help needed

Hi, In this thread https://www.qlforum.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=3133 I was exlpaining that, like the original author, my QL was dead i.e. no image on screen. I also explain that the only thing that works are: the power led in "on", due to my hermes chip, the keyboard produce click sou...

Re: Random QL glitch: no video signal and refuses to boot

Have you had any luck fixing yours. It's been almost 2 weeks and mine hasn't glitched since so the deduction that futzing with the motherboard (i.e. I had to remove it) likely moved something that caused one of the socketed chips to lose full contact. Grabbing the 9-pin signal off of MC1733 for col...

Re: Random QL glitch: no video signal and refuses to boot

I am experiencing exactly the same behavior. I worry updating this due to being superstitions. However, still now glitch repeat since I re-seated the chips in sockets and cleaned the sockets with isopropyl. Murphy's law suggests as soon as I hit submit on this my QL will go haywire again but hoping...

Re: Random QL glitch: no video signal and refuses to boot

I can answer one of your mysteries at least. I've been looking at the Hermes code - and the keyclick will work whilst there are spaces left in the buffer - after so may character presses, if nothing is reading the keystrokes out of the Hermes chip - the buffer will fill and no longer accept keys - ...

Re: Random QL glitch: no video signal and refuses to boot

I am experiencing exactly the same behavior. Same thing, no video and the hermes click stops after about 10 keystrokes. That QL historically had many problems, mainly freezing just after the F1/F2 prompt. But even when frozen, each key press would always produced a sound with Hermes fitted. The prob...

Re: QL Haul, list of Contents and questions!

Hi,

Nice bundle.

If I remember correctly, the qimi interface works directly with Atari mice or with modified Amiga mice.

Do you hear a small click sound coming from the speaker when you reset ? There should be.

Re: Sinclair QL - QL-SD with vDRIVE QL

You should be able to use both - there are 2 ROM sockets in the QL - both are wired exactly the same, so you could put the QL-SD in the right hand one as you look at the front, and the rom switcher in the left socket. The QL-SD comes with its own minerva rom. If you want to use your ROM switcher, y...

Re: Sinclair QL - QL-SD with vDRIVE QL

Hi, Most software, games might run on a Super Gold Card QL, but the main issue is that the programmers assumed the the screen memory and the System Variables stay static. Loading SMSQ/E will move the screen base to another memory location. On a SGC, SMSQ/E keeps the screen and System Variables at t...
