ICL OPD 3 vertical white stripes fault
Just got my Merlin Tonto out to try out Stephens' C1 disk interface clone. I didn't get as far as plugging that in though, as I get a chequered pattern and then this screen with 3 vertical lines on boot: 20240120_201219.jpg It was working a few months ago when I packed it away. Likely RAM issue? I c...

Re: ICL OPD
I read that too on the WD1770/WD1772 re the stepping. I suppose I could just try a WD1770 when I've built the adapter.
Thanks Stephen and Pr0f.

Re: ICL OPD
My PCB's should arrive soon. I have all the other components together and will temp pinch the WD1772 from my Trump card for now. Obviously the ICL Basic is different in many respects to normal QL basic, I wonder if it would be possible to run QL basic somehow on an OPD? Or would it be too restricted...

Re: Piggyback 4164 to Diagnose Memory Fault
Have you tried booting it with Minerva? That will report some codes and from them you can (usually) work out which chip is bad.

Re: Piggyback 4164 to Diagnose Memory Fault
What is the issue though, does Minerva report a RAM problem with an error screen full of large digits?

Re: Piggyback 4164 to Diagnose Memory Fault
I think that would be fine. You'll probably have to press it down onto the chip and keep holding when testing - whatever is needed to ensure the connection is good. I've used that method before, sometimes it cures the issue other times it leads to different patterns on screen and sometimes it makes ...

Re: What is this 4 Floppy Drives adapter for?
Was a very useful device. Always worked very well for me, the only little problem was that as it was uncased, it got dusty I'm not using mine currently, as my Gold Card QL has been reduced for now to two floppy drives since getting QIMSI. Previously, I had a mix of DD, HD and ED floppy drives. Well...

Re: What is this 4 Floppy Drives adapter for?
Checked mine and I have one with a GC sticker like yours with mods on the rear and also a D2 as BSJR describes with the mods incorporated into the PCB design.

Re: User meeting in Spain to celebrate the 40th Anniversary of the Sinclair QL
Napsternds found this information today in an internal Sinclair newsletter: https://sinclairqles.files.wordpress.com/2024/01/whatsapp-image-2024-01-17-at-11.20.25.jpeg Good to learn that all of the 'foreign' QLs would have been delivered with the Psion v2 versions and also interesting that there we...

Re: What is this 4 Floppy Drives adapter for?
The wiki indicate me more or less what I already know, the wiki indicate that the one without sticker is for the trump card. This has not sense, because one of the IC of the trump card, one of the 74LS175 has the unique proposal of provide the signals for the 3rd and 4th Drive. So I wondering why t...
