Re: Let us chat about Desktop Publishing on the QL

Yeah but we are hardware tinkerers, while TJ seems more software (and mouse) oriented ;) Think of TJ in this way.... :P average joe that buys a new computer and learning as he goes.... plays with both hardware and software... but is no tech... just a dude that tries what he sees documented... some ...

Re: Let us chat about Desktop Publishing on the QL

Will the Gold Card be enough or even the future #8 QL Board Dave is working on allow mic more easily if using this PE? Amply. When 512k was the best available, I was happy as a pig in poo with that ;) Cool. That will be my end goal. Will learn the basics "mouse-less" at first but hope to ...

Re: Let us chat about Desktop Publishing on the QL

Regarding mice on QL hardware, if you want anything other than a retro museum piece, you need decent software to use it, ie PE. That requires about 40k extra, and ideally, with Hotkeys and all that, about 50-60k. PE application software is also comparatively chubby, and real multitasking dramatical...

Re: Let us chat about Desktop Publishing on the QL

Just to add a little more to the discussion.... I have been talking with Fred Toussi about Text87 and releasing the sources for his printer drivers etc later this year... The answer to the lack of a modern printer for the QL will be the Retro-Printer (http://www.retroprinter.com) - you just need to...

Re: Let us chat about Desktop Publishing on the QL

Most of the DTP programmes for the QL are not supplied with the source code. DO you think it is worth trying to write an open source DTP programme? I think, neither was. In our days, I think, everyone wanted to use a pointer driven DTP System. Simply ask Francois Lanciault, why he doesn't has devel...

So in general terms, do you feel QDOS is easier to grasp for a commoner like me versus learning Linux or Unix?

What makes the OS for QL any better, different, unique ?

From those that know the QL well... what to you males the OS that came with the QLs any better, different, or unique compared to other flavors of OS on other platforms. I have heard a comment before that the OS is better... but curious what that means. Something that can back that up? I don't know t...

Re: Let us chat about Desktop Publishing on the QL

I mean when I personally thing of the 68xxx systems... I think DTP like Mac, Atari, etc.... did the QL springboard off this power? After Sinclair went bankrupt in 1986, I can't recall any larger QL application software that could compete with the rest of the 68K world. Everything was very limited, ...

Step back in time... QL Brochure video I made

I have stepped back in time and just walked into a Sinclair Dealer here in the USA <grin> and picked up a nice brochure about this new awesome computer they call the QL from Sinclair. Going to take it home and read, digest it all, then decide if I will take the plunge. Something tells me I will! :mr...
