That's weird, in general vDrive does support the mdump format and converts it on the fly to the simpler QLay format it uses internally at runtime.

However, vDrive and QLAY2 all see it as a corrupt MDV image as they generally seem to like theirs 172KB in size not 159KB. The mdump utility creates microdrive images in a format different from the QLay one. For example, it includes multiple copies of bad sectors in case this can help data recovery...

AFAIK neither the original Macintosh nor the original Atari ST have any multitasking neither preemptive nor cooperative. They both are single tasking operating systems with a GUI (Graphical User Interface). ... OK I have read in this article, that the classic Mac supports cooperative Multitasking, ...

The most expensive QL I bought had a £399 price tag... but since that was in 1984, it's equivalent to about £1300 today. Crazy! And I think that one year later they were already selling for 1/3 the original price.

Possibly a cheeky question - but is there any possibility to allow ROM scanning in the area from 0x010000/0x014000 and again at 0x01C000 - the 32K and 16K areas either side of hte QL I/O area. QDOS doesn't look for add-on ROMs there, but in the emulator it's possible to load ROM code in the $10000-...
