Re: Q68 QoE Ethernet Driver

1. I don't know how well a 7.5MHz 68008 can keep up with reading data packets from the CP2200 controller chip. I'd expect throughput only moderately higher than QL network. But it would provide the ethernet connectivity. [EDIT] Also I don't know if the driver will work in QDOS/Minerva. This can be ...

Re: Ethernet for the QL

I was trying to put them on a short cable so the socket could be located somewhere with more room (can't close the case) but the signal is destroyed. I was not aware you were using a cable. That is of course problematic. The datasheet also says the magnetics need to be within 3-4cm of the IC. From ...

No they are not. In 512x256 QL MODE 4, I double horizontally and triple vertically for VESA standard 1024x768 on 4:3 monitor.
That roughly provides the QL aspect ratio seen on CRT historically.

Re: Ethernet for the QL

Suitable separate magnetics certainly exist. But I never selected any, since I prefer them integrated. Not sure what you mean by "up to about 40mm away and then it all goes to hell". The signals are differential, so if you have a groundplane and keep them in pairs, I don't see why the CP22...

Re: 68020 compatible Q68?

I see no lack of clarity for the use of a Qzero.I would use it exactly as it is intended to be used; for experiments. The making of carriers, housings, I/O support, documentation and testing would be part of the fun. There are just so many experiments I'd be pressured to support if I release it. Th...

Re: 68020 compatible Q68?

Philosophical question indeed, as "emulator" can have a variety of meanings. The FPGA doesn't implement the same transistor layout and characteristics as the original Motorola chip, so I consider it a hardware emulation. I see where you come from as emulator author, and your expertise is ...

68020 compatible Q68?

Not sure this is really worth an extra topic, but it was disturbing the Pascal software discussion, so I pull it over. Thanks, Peter. Most informative! Might we see a Q68/20 some day? ;) From a pure development view, the Q68 logic could be changed to 68020 compatibility quite easily. (This would not...

Re: QL / PASCAL

Perhaps thats a matter for the philosophers to ponder. Since the FPGA is not a 68k CPU it must perforce just be a simulation..? No, not at all. The Q68 does not perform any kind of simulation or emulation. The 68k CPU is there in hardware. Instantly, when you power-on. To understand this, it might ...

Re: QL on the Raspberry Pi...?

Althoigh the uQlx license is troublesome from a code integration point of view! Does it still contain that "maximum commercial copying fee must not exceed DM 10" clause? :? Anyway, I don't think SMSQ/E for UQLX would have to be part of the UQLX code covered by that license. Minerva and QD...
