Re: Sir Clive passed away.

I am not a literary man by any means, doubly so when someone's nearest-and-dearest has died, because I'm always treading on eggshells in my heaviest boots and inevitably an egg or six will get smashed. I've had so many family deaths that I'm somewhat desensitised, so I generally don't say anything. ...

Re: Dr. Jim's QL Dumping Ground

You are correct, and it was that simple. When I was making this version I effectively copied the procedure for decimal-to-binary from hbc8_bas and converted it to decimal-to-hex. The original line in hbc8_bas was: 2180 IF b%(n)>1 THEN bit_carry(n) I've now corrected the download link - and the packa...

Re: Dr. Jim's QL Dumping Ground

Your best bet to test 33-64 bit values is to put them into WolframAlpha. That's how I got hold of the binary and hex equivalents of the powers of 10, and also what I used to check the "test" value was working properly. I don't see any reason why the over-32-bit values would translate badly...

Re: Dr. Jim's QL Dumping Ground

No revisions have happened yet - there was a very sudden need to get on with the decorating in the lounge that was just as suddenly removed, but I ploughed on through it and after seven days of scraping (plus one day at the seaside during that mini-heatwave)... I now have a lounge that has no paint ...

Re: The QL UDG Playground

Intriguing. So it can do the whole character set and all the foreign characters at the same time? When I get enough time, I'll see how my custom Minecraft font works with this. The characters are 4-5 pixels wide, so it'll fir, and I already have it as a PNG that can be easily hacked about in GIMP. R...

Re: The comp.sys.sinclair Crap Games Competition 2021: 25th edition extravaganza!

END OF WEEK 36: What's this? A blank week? Well, that's just brilliant , isn't it? Actually, just this once , I won't grumble because I've got a lot of much-needed work done on the house, and had a day at the coast eating fish and chips, two ice creams, and wandering around on the beach wondering w...

Re: The comp.sys.sinclair Crap Games Competition 2021: 25th edition extravaganza!

END OF WEEK 35: There's been one entry this week - Zoggle , by Jamie Bradbury, for the Z88. I never formally posted it here (Sinclair ZX World is the other forum where I only post entries immediately if it's a favoured system - but there is a special Z88 section, so I posted it there at the time). ...

Re: QL Art

I had to check the S*Basic Reference Manual for this unusual use of SCROLL & PAN in this _bas, acting as file pointers. That may not be valid for the ROM you are using. If TK2 is present this can be replaced with BGET #3,n. I was wondering what was going on with those. I could see they were act...

Re: The comp.sys.sinclair Crap Games Competition 2021: 25th edition extravaganza!

It's odd, isn't it. It took me an hour to make a Boggle grid for the QL, and all I'd need to do was add a title and a method of keeping score and I'd have a QL equivalent of both of Jamie's games and a Spectrum type-in from way after type-ins were still a major concern. The process of throwing the d...

Re: The comp.sys.sinclair Crap Games Competition 2021: 25th edition extravaganza!

CALLING ALL EXPERT Q L PROGRAMMERS! I have a Crap Game Challenge specifically for you! And it'll be quite un-Crap if any of you can pull it off. Today, Jamie Bradbury has sent me Zoggle , a completely reworked version of his Z88 Boggle from earlier in the year. What it does do is display a grid of ...
