Re: Dhrystone compiled on BBQL with Digital C SE

I must just be misunderstanding how C works here. I found the original version 1.1 of Dhrystone and it's the same as Franz Krojers with regard to Proc1(): https://github.com/Keith-S-Thompson/dhrystone/blob/master/v2.1/dhrystone.c So sending a pointer to a pointer...i.e.: Proc3(PtrParIn->PtrComp->Ptr...

Re: Dhrystone compiled on BBQL with Digital C SE

Looking further at my Digital C SE implementation of Dhrystone, since it seems to be writing to screen memory when running on my actual BBQL (i.e. I get little dots in the middle of my screen), I went over the code to figure out why. So in both of Franz Krojer's implementations of Dhrystone, version...

Re: Dhrystone compiled on BBQL with Digital C SE

Ok, finally ran my Digital C SE version on my QL (read the "Serial connection between QL and PC" to see how I had to get the executable to my QL the old-school way. It actually ran faster at 176 Dhrystones. Weird because the Metacomco version ran at 196, same as on Q-emulator. The one smal...

Re: Serial connection between QL and PC

Yeah by 97 we had 16950 UARTS and they could do 2M without dropping a byte no hardware flow control. Weirdly this was only broken by ARM chips which had shitty UARTS with no FIFOs! Btw, the driver (Prolific USB-to-Serial Comm Port) had an advanced setting to adjust or turn off FIFO buffers. I just ...

Re: Serial connection between QL and PC

Success! So it turns out one of the four lines from QL to breakout box was not working...it was somehow not making contact on the connector end. Took me a while to debug with the breakout box but I saw that on the PC side, it was definitely doing hardware flow control. So now I can copy something ov...

Re: Serial connection between QL and PC

Hi, It does not matter how old the software is, as long as you have setup the serial port in Windows in the device manager with the correct Baud Rate and configured the Windows terminal software, TeraTerm with the Windows COM port and baud rate, use Software Flow Control, connect the PC to the QL w...

Re: Serial connection between QL and PC

Considering none of those lines have been used on a PC for 15+ years, I wouldnt even guess at whether they are operational on a modern PC. I do a LOT of rs232 in my line of work and have not used hardware flow control in my whole professional career! Wow...hardware flow control seemed so critical b...

Re: Serial connection between QL and PC

Oh wow, this is all very helpful. I thought I was going bonkers. So the lights on the break out box aren't changing from red to green. I think I had, at one point, red on both sides in Tera Term using RTS/CTS and nothing was going through, so at least that suggests some form of communication was goi...

Re: Serial connection between QL and PC

Is your PC serial port a pucker serial port or a USB to serial interface? I have found that most pc interfaces use a UART chip that has a FIFO buffer - and this can be problematic for the QL - as it doesn't have much of a buffer, nor can it react quickly to buffer filling as the algorithm for check...

Re: Serial connection between QL and PC

How about using serNET, with QPC2 acting as a file server. That gets any PC terminal software out of the loop. I've never used serNET. But if it works like the normal QL Net. Then it will do error handling on bad packets. It's a chicken and egg problem. The only thing I have running on my QL is JS ...
