Re: ULA1 nextgen idea...

Elon Musk is a visionary. He does hire people, but he is deeply ingrained with every apsect of all of his project and he does REGULARLY "dirty" his hands with real work, be it design, some support programming etc. Not a fan of Musk. But if what you say is true, all I can say is "yike...

BTW, this happens independent of the OS. The device drivers are something you can update by going to the manufacturer and that happens with Windows 11 as well.

Re: ULA1 nextgen idea...

And out of all that, on aproject he was supposedly living for, what design work is genuinely his ? Anywhere I look, he was just finding mules to delegate his work on. That's how design work. You have someone that has a vision and find a group of people to implement that. Steve Jobs was the same way...

Re: ULA1 nextgen idea...

I'm in the process right now of installing Windows 7 on my wife's machine that had its disk fail after running for 5 years. On all my installations, the first thing I do is turn updates off. I've never used updates on any of my machines and don't have any compatibility issues (I run the latest vers...

Re: ULA1 nextgen idea...

Technology is a tough area since there is need to fix broken things but also a desire to update old things. When I had my own business for the Apple Macintosh, where I basically added QL functionality to the early Mac, I never liked the idea of upgrading my software. I did it once because a distrib...

Re: ULA1 nextgen idea...

Me personally, I loved creating the things I did, am still proud of them, and happy people now share them freely, but had no interest in upgrading and updating them constantly (though that's a great business model). WRT to avoiding upgrades in SW land, I find this totally unrealistic. Totally incom...

Re: ULA1 nextgen idea...

If it works, it would surely delight Sir Clive. One thing I learned recently about Sir Clive, once a project is designed and into production, he's off onto the next one, and doesn't really care much at all about what came before. It's almost like getting really excited about having kids and then no...

Re: Sir Clive passed away.

So very sad. I think the last time I saw an image of him he looked older than he had a year earlier so you could kind of see his health was in decline. The ZX81 was my first computer and I learned so much from that little beast. It was such a liberating device back then for a kid to explore. I still...

Re: Scaling an entire screen

My destination platform would be a BBQL (with JSU ROM since the scaling functions are for that). I also need the program to run a little quicker since the music replay is a bit slow (playing Mary Had A Little Lamb was painful). The program allows you to set tempo but I can't believe that it actually...
