Re: Beyond Super Gold Card

So the Spectrum Next has USB mouse, printers, networking and storage support via Raspi this way? Can you give us a link to that? As far as I know, it doesn't. The Raspi is used as an accelerator board only and (maybe, I'm not sure) to emulate a printer port. Mouse and keyboard are using PS/2 ports....

Re: Beyond Super Gold Card

Still I wonder in which part of the world PS/2 keyboards are almost impossible to find. I quickly re-checked the situation for Germany, and found at least 10 different new keyboards immediately. Please note that USB+PS/2 combo versions are also okay. I also checked the very latest PC mainboards, an...

Re: Beyond Super Gold Card

I love the BBQL - it's the nostalgic factor. For me the QL is about retro-computing and I do not need anything more than SGC speed and a small improvement in graphics - like 16 colors Thor mode 12 or better 16 colors with user defined palette - or at most a 640x480 resolution with 256 colors. Anythi...

Re: P.I. Cole - noir detective game

Great! Wasn't sure it would help, have never used the W volume myself - Just browsed through the docs some time ago. Tobias The only downside is that compression is achieved by saving only red or green. So when you load the image you have to recolor it to get white pixels - and you get red or green...

Re: P.I. Cole - noir detective game

If DIY "w" doesn't help, send me a PM. Provided I have a bit of time, I could write a simple SB extension that does what you need - I would assume you're not loading complete screen files. Tobias I made some tests using DIY volume W - windows_code and it works like a charm ! The screens w...

Re: P.I. Cole - noir detective game

Wow!!! So It can works on real QL too, right? :D This is the plan - to work on real QL +vDriveQL (or Trump Card or QUBIDE or floppy or QL-SD) I am not sure about working on QL with only the 2 microdrives, as it would require a lot of cartridge swapping - I will test this when the program is fully w...

Re: P.I. Cole - noir detective game

You can't get any faster than RLE - It is by far the fastest (and simplest) compression method. If compiled S*Basic is too slow, you'll need to revert to a faster language. If your picture is really only black and white, you can easily squeeze them into half the space by only storing the green (tha...

Re: P.I. Cole - noir detective game

a) Why do you need to compress the screens? Is it to fit it on a floppy disk - or is the game going to run from HD disk or SD / CF card? The game will run from HD/SD/CF card - there are no space issues there. And it will probably fit on a DD floppy or 2, in worst case scenario. But I want the game ...
