Re: What makes the OS for QL any better, different, unique ?

Hello Stephen, I did not know that Xenix was foreseen to become MS-DOS. However if they could not make a "simple" system like MS-DOS compatible with an "advanced" system like Xenix, certainly based on all the best theories about system software, then: - either they had utterly ba...

Re: What makes the OS for QL any better, different, unique ?

Excuses I do not come every day. From 1976 to 1995 only single tasking microcomputers were accepted by the public simply because multitasking systems based on academic research were not usable with the then available microprocessors. Except the QL with a completely different system software. Indeed ...

Re: What makes the OS for QL any better, different, unique ?

OK a few words about this analogy. The semaphore/mutex/lock concept is associated with waiting lists of threads/processes when another one already "took" the permission to access the shared data structures to read or possibly modify them. This is like traffic lights protecting a crossroad....

Re: What makes the OS for QL any better, different, unique ?

Hello @SinclairSociety I had the same question back in the beginning of the 90's, 25 years ago. I contacted Tony Tebby who just moved to France. And he explained to me during months, because I am not a computer scientist, why QDOS/SMSQ is different, maybe better. It has to do with semaphores. Edsger...

Re: Miracle Super Gold card

Hello Vitaliy, You, in Novossibirsk will never believe it. Because we had 15 cm of snow last night in Paris area, it is a mess everywhere. No busses today and post office closed. And because there will be negative temperatures this night, maybe -5 °C and snow again on Friday, according to our author...

Re: Miracle Super Gold card

And I want to add something: I am happy that I did not sell my SGC until now and that it will be used for the clone. This is a very good use for it!

Re: Miracle Super Gold card

OK, so I will leave the heatsink as is (it would also have made a smaller parcel). About the memory of SGC, I understand that the max is 4MB. To receive back a clone of Super Gold Card that works exactly like the one I will send to you is enough for me to be "paid". And do not bother about...

Re: Miracle Super Gold card

Hello Tetroid (Vitaliy), So Dave does not need a SGC, my mistake because of a message about a file with equations above. And Marcel informed us on his blog that he can wait for your clone to test his new developments. So this Super Gold Card is for you. About price: what about sending me one of your...

Re: Miracle Super Gold card

Hello from France, I have an unused Super Gold Card that I would send to either Tetroid to the far east, or Dave to the far west, or to Marcel, Germany. It is one of the first produced, I got it from the hands of Stuart Honeyball himself during a show, maybe in 1993 (I have not found the invoice, bu...
